Earlier this week I received a letter from Cingular informing me that more than half of my calls were made off network and therefore, they were terminating my contract. I called and got a promise that they would unlock my phone (I’m still waiting on the code and instructions… they told me it would take 10 business days to get).
After checking out the other providers (all of whom offer basically the same service), I got on my parents’ family plan (hey… it’s $11/month instead of $45). I got my new phone today and it has been activated. If you want my phone number and didn’t get a call or email from me with the number, please leave me a comment and I’ll get it to you.
P.S. Cingular, you’ve lost a customer for a very long time.
When I first got my phone from them I was up at MTU. I read the contract and the whole time was waiting for them to cancel my service. Here in Iowa it’s on their primary network, so I plan on racking up a bunch of calls and minutes before I head back to MTU. We’ll see how long I remain a customer of theirs…
It really doesn’t matter how much time you use while you’re on their primary network right now. They’ll drop you once you hit three consecutive months using 50% of your minutes on a competitor’s network.
Except… this obviously isn’t the case, since I’ve had the phone for so long. I think how it works is that you have to use 50% of your minutes on a competitor’s network for calls that leave the tower. It’s the only reason I can think of that would have allowed me to keep my service for so long. The last few months I was making a lot of calls downstate, which probably put me over.
